There are moments when hearts are touched and changed forever.

The wedding of Jenn and Mick Walker was one of those occasions where no heart was left untouched!

The walk down the aisle was a big walk for Mick and Jenn.

“Marriage is not to be entered into unadvisedly or lightly, but reverently, and deliberately.”  For Mick and Jenn saying, ” I Do!” wasn’t some romantic decision.  It was a decision they thought long and hard about. When it came time to say, “I Do!” every heart and soul was touched because everyone knew the “I Do!” meant something deep.

One of the sweetest moments I had in the lead up to the marriage was when I asked Mick, “Are you excited?”

To which he replied, “I’ve never been excited about getting married.  In fact I never wanted to get married.”

His next statement caught me unawares, “I had never seen any good marriages so I thought why get married?  Why put yourself through all the pain!  Then I came into contact with some people who really loved one another.  I began to hang around Tailrace and began to see good marriages and I realised it was possible. So I changed my mind because I can now see how it can be.”

It was this beautiful commitment to marriage which touched all of our hearts.

They made getting married the message of their ceremony and reception.

They chose to get married in the cafe on Date Night.

A 4:30pm ceremony followed by drinks and nibbles.

Love can be so whimsical when we let it flow.   Date Night is a place where we remind ourselves that life isn’t just about school pick ups, dirty dishes, receipts and errands.  It is about this magical thing called life and love.

It was into this whimsical space that Jenn and Mick  chose to set the date, to make the final commitment and to say their “I Do’s!”

Jenn and Mick  usually commit to looking after the kids at Date Night but this night they chose to steal the time to say their most important words to each other.  To take time out to say, “Life is more than busy and hurry, kids and things.  Life and love matter.”

They knew the kids would be looked after and have their own magical time in Kids Paradise.

Jenn worked with our chef to design the menu for Date Night.

As a child Mick had told his mum that when he got married he was having a Donut Cake.  So a Donut Cake was created.  Girlfriends did hair and make up, giggled and laughed helping Jenn prepare her day.  Young hearts couldn’t stay away, each wanting to make a contribution to Jenn and Mick’s day.  Tables and decorations created and styled…every touch coming from a heart wanting to bless.

One friend wanted Jenn to arrive in style and arranged for a limousine pick up.

Friends and family were invited and Jenn and Mick were happy to share their space with other lovers, others wanting more of life and love.

Date Night had taken on a new shade of love.

Ancient words from the Sacred text were read from hearts who knew the meaning…

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”

They weren’t just words they were wishes, hopes given to a couple from a couple who had tried and tested those words in their own marriage for over 30 years.

A prayer, a blessing given by friends who love life and love.

When the words of pronouncement were made you could see hearts  jumping up and down with whimsical joy,  “They’re married!  They’re married!”

Joy was uncontainable.  Love overflowed…

Jenn and Mick we wish you all the best in your marriage.

Thank you for sharing your hearts with us and for reminding us a wedding is simply the beginning of marriage.  May your marriage be as wonderful as your wedding day.
