The Enchanted Evening was magical, exquisite, delightful, full of love, dignity and honour. The hum of little girls voices as they arrived and waited for their big moment was a divine sound. We always love that moment when we open the doors and the girls push forward to the sound of awe and wonder. For 2 hours little girls enter a world of imagination, joy, love and delight.
One of the sweetest moments for me was meeting all the sponsored girls. Girls who some for the first time had a beautiful new dress and were preening possibly for the first time in their life. They wanted me to look at their dress, their hair, their jewellery, their shoes. They preened and twirled and were so excited. Tonight they could be a princess! Thank you kind hearted sponsors.
At 6:30 the doors opened and the 400 little girls found themselves escorted into a magical world of frozen. I always love watching our boys escort beautiful little princesses down the catwalk. The sound of 100 volunteers clapping and cheering placing value upon their identity – there is no sound that is more beautiful. The girls were simply radiant in heart and spirit. The catwalk moment is a very emotional moment for many parents and for mums of girls that have already been bruised by the world, it can bring tears to their eyes as they watch truth, dignity, respect and love restored to the soul of their girls.
The party ! Wow! Our 100+ volunteers know how to give a party. From make up pamper stations, to nail stations, to a Mad hatters tea party and dress up station, to a hair station, to the mosh pit. The room shimmered and jumped with colour, vibrance and the movement of little feet. I had to
laugh at the seats allocated for girls to sit on to wait to go to the pamper room. Who taught little girls that they needed to have a little touch up and go to the ladies room in groups?
The ending came all too quickly and it wasn’t long before the girls were enjoying their supper, the story, the final song and then the balloon and confetti drop. As a mum my heart loved watching the creative team deliver the message on their heart for this year’s Enchanted Evening. The message is a message core to the heart and soul of Tailrace and was inspired by the under 25’s. The message is: “Only listen to the message that bring life to your heart and soul! You have a heavenly Father who believes in you.”
Before we knew it we were saying goodbye to 400 little girls as they gathered their gifts and headed out the door. As they left and went back to their homes our prayer and our hope is that as they are tucked into bed, that their heart and soul will be warm with the reality that they are uniquely and wonderfully made. That they have a future and a hope and that there is a company of men and women who believe in them and a Heavenly Father who simply adores them.
To all the mums and dads that brought their little girls to have value and love placed upon them – thank you.
