At the place where rivers once converged and communities gathered, Tailrace continues a long tradition of creating spaces where connection and belonging flourish in the heart of Launceston.

Built around people
More than twenty years ago, the church spent time with people in this part of Launceston and heard something that kept coming up: an ache for connection, for somewhere that felt like home in a part of the city most people just passed through.
What grew from that listening is, as far as we know, the largest community-built project in Tasmania. Built by the local community, run by the local community, staffed by local people. The vision was always simple: create spaces that could hold whatever people brought through the door, across every stage of life, from a child’s first birthday to a business conference to a Sunday morning. Spaces for celebration, connection, play, and gathering, that also generate the income that keeps the community work going.
One table, one conversation, one act of care at a time. That’s how this place has always worked.
Today that vision shows up in four different ways.
STORIES FROM THE TABLE
I would especially like to mention the great support David had given myself and my colleague over the two days I was there with two small groups of teachers. Both days David diligently supported and guided us through the IT, food and of course was available at my every need and question. He was a superstar over the two days.
I would just like to thank all staff from the Tailrace Centre for their incredible customer service at the Tasmanian Catholic Education Conference. My colleague tells me there was not a thing that was a hassle and all staff were friendly and willing to assist. The lead up was so easy and we are forever grateful as a venue that makings things as easy as you do is certainly a godsend when you get to the thick end of a Conference! Thank You!
I would like to thank the team at the Tailrace for your professionalism with hosting our two recent events. The catering was delicious over the two days with positive comments received from participants and presenters. Please pass on a special thank you to David for all his assistance.
....This was my first time facilitating in your wonderful venue and couldn’t have been more pleased with the staff, resources and food ...... I would also like to mention all the staff were all bright, friendly and cooperative whilst I was in your venue. The food was also a hit with the participants, of course, ourselves as well...
We really did enjoy the venue. It was a great space and the catering was marvellous and a big thank you to David who was really helpful on helping us to set up and throughout the day. Thank you to Sophie for helping with the booking and arrangements. We will certainly keep your venue in mind for future events. It was recommended to me for this event by another colleague.

Absolutely amazing wedding venue! We came from Melbourne 3 days prior to our Wedding day and the tailrace had everything organised for us in advance. The reception room was set up and looked absolutely beautiful, the ceremony was outdoors in their beautiful lush gardens and the event planners were so helpful. They literally organised everything from start to finish. We didn’t have to think about a thing apart from turning up and having the best day ever. Ceremony, reception, celebrant, food, alcohol, staff, decorations ABSOLUTELY everything is done for you via the venue with so much flexibility. Our day was nothing short of perfect and felt absolutely magical!!! I just want to relive this day over and over. The Tailrace are incredible at making this journey stress free and perfect!

We loved having our reception on your beautiful lawn area and the food served was absolutely delicious! Thanks also so the efforts you put in to setting up the lolly bar. We were absolutely blown away with tailrace. Their communication was fantastic, the ladies were easy to talk to and deal with. The location was STUNNING! Our ceremony was perfect! We really could not have asked for anything more. We got married in the gardens down the bottom, it was peaceful, private and a gorgeous spot once everything come together!! Hosted a public speaking training event at the Tailrace Centre today and they made it so easy. The space was just how I needed it, the team super helpful with all requests and participants loved the food.
